Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to help detect spam.

An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you use that service. Its privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. Once a comment is approved, the profile picture is visible publicly alongside the comment.

Media

When uploading images, avoid files containing embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images and extract that location data.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt to save your name, email address and website in cookies for convenience. The current Portuguese policy states that these cookies last one year.

Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to determine whether the browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is removed when the browser closes.

On login, cookies store login information and display preferences. The Portuguese policy states a one-year duration for login cookies and a two-week session when “Remember me” is selected. Logging out removes the login cookies.

Editing or publishing a post saves an additional cookie containing the post ID, with no personal data. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages may include embedded content such as videos, images or articles. Embedded content behaves as though the visitor had visited the other website.

Those websites may collect data, use cookies, include third-party tracking and monitor interaction with the embedded content, including interactions when you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who your data is shared with

If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.

How long your data is retained

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically rather than held in a moderation queue.

For users who register, if any, we store the personal information supplied in their profile. Users may view, edit or delete their information, except their username. Site administrators can also view and edit that information.

Your rights over your data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an export of the personal data held about you, including information you provided. You may also request deletion. This does not include data we are obliged to retain for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked by an automated spam-detection service.
